Golden:
Tracing the origin of the Golden Retriever starts in 19th century Great Britian.
Desiring a staunch hunting companion whose personality and looks would also lend themselves to the opinions of British aristocracy, Sir Dudley Majorbanks, first Lord of Tweedmouth at Inverness-Shire, Scotland. set out to breed the "perfect dog".
Made available to the public in 1952 by Country Life, Lord Tweedmouth’s Stud Book (developed from 1835-1890) indicates a meticulous breeding program (which was decidedly not the norm for 1800’s England).
A yellow pup ("Nous") from a litter of Black Flat Coat Retrievers** marks the beginning of Lord Tweedmouths quest. Breeding "Nous" with a Tweed Water Spaniel (also know as the English Water Dog – now extinct) produced four pups which became the main stock from which his breeding program initially drew.
Taking these four pups, Lord Tweedmouth began a crossbreed program, which covered 20 years and included other breeds such as Labrador Retrievers, Flat Coat Retrievers, Irish Setters, Tweed Water Spaniels, and even Bloodhounds. The result was what we now know as the Golden Retriever.
The Kennel Club of England first recognized the breed in 1903 as "Flat Coats – Golden". By 1911, it acknowledged them as their own separate breed – "The Yellow or Golden Retriever". (over the ensuing years, "Yellow" was dispensed with).
Ali:
The Origin of the Golden Retriever is less obscure than most of the Retriever varieties, as the breed was definitely started by the first Lord Tweedmouth last century, as shown in his carefully kept private stud-book and notes, first brought to light by his great nephew, the Earl of Ilchester in 1952. In 1868 Lord Tweedmouth mated a yellow Wavy-Coated Retriever (Nous) bred by Lord Chichester to a Tweed Water-Spaniel (Belle) from Ladykirk on the Tweed. These Tweed Water-Spaniels, rare except in the Border Country, are described by authorities of that time as like a small Retriever, liver-coloured and curly-coated. Lord Tweedmouth methodically line-bred down from this mating between 1868 and 1890, using anther Tweed Water-Spaniel, and outcrosses of two black Retrievers, an Irish Setter and a sandy-coloured Bloodhound. It is now known that one of the most influential Kennels in the first part of the century which lies behind all present day Golden Retrievers was founded on stock bred by Lord Tweedmouth

(preveden citat Mrs. Roslin-Williams vir: The Versatile Labrador Retriever by Nancy Martin).
Če sem kaj morebiti napak napisal pa me popravite.
